Writing website content is not like writing your university thesis – for one thing no one’s got that much time. However if you include these simple tips, it’ll put you one step ahead of the competition.
Write for your audience and make sure you answer their ‘what’s in it for me?’ question.
Don’t use long rambling paragraphs. Web content should contain plenty of ‘white space’ to break up the text and give the eyes a chance to rest.
Keep it succinct and avoid jargon – write like you speak.
Make sure your content is free of typos, grammatical errors and you’ve got these punctuation rules down pat.
Use Google Keyword Planner to research your keywords – it’s free.
SEO (search engine optimisation). Keywords – make sure they’re in the url, the H1/H2 headers, meta tags and alt tags for your images as a bare minimum. Video is a big one too. There’s a plenty of SEO ‘gurus’ out there but you can also learn a lot from the web. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Add value by linking to information which will help your customers or clients.
If you’re already ticking those boxes then high-five.
